The Call

Up until this point, I had a name and a phone number and a heck of a lot of anxiety.

Should I call? Does she want to hear from me? What if she doesn't? Is it better to move on without trying to contact her any longer? I already had a wonderful family that I didn't want to leave, so should I even pursue this?

My mom volunteered to make the initial call, which was well received by my birth mother. Shortly thereafter, I spoke with my birth mother on the phone as well. It was overwhelming and surreal. Neither of us had a lot to say, but we did make plans to meet in-person. Due to the condition of my birth mother's health, we agreed to meet at her home, about an hour and fifteen minutes away from my hometown. My mom and I made the trek together, unsure of what we would learn.
